FRESH INSIGHTS NEWSLETTER
(Volume 3 - December 2009)
As part of CCGD’s Supply Chain agenda the Association is constantly seeking opportunities to profile new ideas that may benefit member businesses.  In partnership with IBM, CCGD has developed the a quarterly newsletter called Fresh Insights.

The newsletter will profile key developments in retail and supply chain areas and provide an early warning for members on emerging opportunities as well as provide a regular update on issues being managed by CCGD.

The inaugural newsletter features articles on:

Literature Review - March 2008
The Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors (CCGD) Atlantic office initiated a study to determine Emerging Consumer Demand for Premium Foods and Beverages in Canada.

The study was conducted by Ipsos Reid and funded in part by Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada through the Advancing Canadian Agriculture & Agri-Food Program.

The project consisted of a study on consumers’ needs for premium food and beverage products. The primary benefit of the project is a comprehensive look at consumer drivers in the area of premium foods and beverages, which will serve as an initial base for future propriety research.

CCGD PANDEMIC PREPAREDNESS GUIDE – 2006

The CCGD Pandemic Preparedness Guide was developed to promote best practices in planning for a possible influenza pandemic.

CCGD NUTRITION LABELLING REFERENCE GUIDE /
CCGD NUTRITION LABELLING REFERENCE GUIDE - NUTRIENT CONTENT CLAIMS AND DIET RELATED HEALTH CLAIMS

The CCGD Nutrition Labelling Reference Guide and Nutrient Content Claims and Diet Related Health Claims were developed to assist retailers in the transition into Health Canada’s mandatory nutrition labelling regulations by December 12, 2005.

CANADIAN GROCERY INDUSTRY RFID PILOT
RFID Value Assessment Results

The results of the Canadian RFID pilot provides a template for both retailers and suppliers to understand the costs, benefits and impact RFID will have on business process.  Information on:  RFID functionality, key benefits that can be realized through RFID adoption and ROI information for both suppliers and retailers is available in the report.

The study provides an excellent starting point for companies seeking to understand the implications of RFID on their business practices and trading partner relations.

CODE OF PRACTICE – SCANNER PRICE ACCURACY VOLUNTARY CODE

The grocery retail industry is focused on the accuracy of scanned pricing to our consumers. We believe that the industry can provide the best service to the consumer through the Scanner Price Accuracy Voluntary Code established in 2002 which is endorsed by the Competition Bureau and supported by the members of the Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors (CCGD), Retail Council of Canada (RCC), Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers (CFIG) and the Canadian Association of Chain Drug Stores (CACDS).

2005 CANADIAN FOODSERVICE DISTRIBUTION INDUSTRY REPORT

The 2005 Canadian Foodservice Distribution Industry Report was developed to assess the health of the Canadian Foodservice industry and offer recommendations to the distribution community to assist the operator community and, in doing so, improve the potential for success of the distribution community.

UNSALEABLES USER’S GUIDE

The Unsaleables User’s Guide outlines the parameters of the Industry Unsaleables Protocol. The Protocol outlines best practices background and FAQ’s that both retailers and suppliers can follow to reduce the incidence of damaged products.

1999 DEDUCTIONS BEST PRACTICES GUIDELINES

In 1999 the Canadian grocery industry agreed to voluntary guidelines to manage deductions.

2002 DEDUCTIONS SURVEY

A follow up survey was undertaken in 2002 to measure implementation of these guidelines.
